With all the fanfare surrounding the Ford Raptor it’s no surprise that Dodge launched the Ram Runner to compete, but where is Chevy? Will GM finally release the Silverado ZR2 with the new 2014 Silverado? First revelead in 2009, the ZR2 Silverado features a 550Hp LS crate motor under the hood, a wider stance, fender flares, 4″ of lift, and Wrangler MT/R tires. These features clearly make the ZR2 Silverado GM’s answer to the Raptor and Ram Runner, albeit fewer options.
So what’s the hold up? Well, no one really knows. According to the ZR2 press release, components of the ZR2 were considered for release in upcoming models, but that’s all we know. It’s hard to imagine that GM doesn’t know that the Raptor has the highest turnover in the Ford fleet, and is the 2012 Motor Trend Truck of the Year. So why not deliver the ZR2 and GMC Sierra All-Terrain in response?
